Update #7

It has been an amazing month, and we've been so happy to hear from friends near and far with donations, support, and greetings of well-wishes for our 10th season. Our hearts are full! So, from all of us, to all of you—

More Info

From unique memorabilia to unforgettable experiences, there are a ton of great perks that come with giving—but, most of all, you know that your tax-deductible gift goes to support our performers & composers and their brilliant music-making. What's coming up next year? We're so glad you asked.

TALEA IN NYC

Our flagship concert series. Talea in NYC presents visionary musical projects and is headlined by dazzling, rarely-heard works. It's often where we bring major new commissions to life and how we share our freshest and most innovative musical programming. Next season brings exciting partnerships with some of NYC's coolest presenters, a return to the TIME SPANS Festival, Talea's first performances at Carnegie Hall, new works and commissions, and more! We can't spill the beans quite yet on everything 2018-19 has in store, but trust us: it will be quite the season! You didn't think we'd let our 10th anniversary season slip by without a bang, did you?

iNSIDE Out

Talea’s outreach and audience engagement series. Every performance fosters creative discussions and interactive environments that allow musicians and audiences to share how and why they listen. The three-dimensional, interdisciplinary nature of iNSIDE Out offers listeners the chance to hear what inspires Talea’s music-making and helps vivid details to bloom in full color. Starting in 2018-19, we're thrilled that the iNSIDE Out series finds a new home at the Flea Theater. Past programs have included small group discussions, “meet-the-composer” questions and answers, and art-making activities: last January, audience members left a beautiful handwritten web of heartfelt responses in a colorful installation at the theater’s entrance.

TOWN HALL

After an inaugural event at the Radcliffe Institute on April 17, Talea is implementing a new "Town Hall" panel discussion series with four events in the 18-19 season. We're going to bring together stakeholders in the musical community with a wide range of backgrounds in the arts and activism, to discuss diversity, inclusion, and representation in the governance and programming of performing arts organizations. We want to make evident the various cultural, financial, and logistical realities that have historically impeded groups like Talea and its peers from equitable representation in their programming. And, as we get ready for a second decade together, we want to help lead big-picture conversations so that organizations like ours can develop strategic plans to ensure more socially-conscious representation and access to opportunities in the future.

Sideshow Blu-ray release party

Talea is releasing a new recording of Steven Kazuo Takasugi's Sideshow on Blu-ray on the Kairos label in June, 2018. To celebrate the end of our season and the Blu-ray release, we're throwing a party! Join us June 4 at the Flea Theater for drinks, hors d'œuvres, an excerpt of Sideshow, and all kinds of fun and games. Tickets go on sale soon!

FAQ'S

What's Fundly and why are you using it?

Fundly is a crowdfunding platform, like Kickstarter. They integrate a whole suite of payment processing and social media services so that we can get the word out about our campaign and process donations online quickly and safely—and keep our focus on the music making!

Is Talea a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation?

You bet! We have a fancy letter from the IRS and all.

Talea? Who's Talea?

Heralded as “a crucial part of the New York cultural ecosphere” by the New York Times, the Talea Ensemble is comprised of twenty of New York City’s finest classical musicians, with a mission to champion musical creativity, cultivate curious listeners, and bring visionary new works to life with vibrant performances that remain in the audience’s imagination long after a concert.

Talea has brought to life more than 30 commissions of major new works since it was founded in 2008, and were honored as recipients of the 2014 Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming,

Praised for their “verve and immaculate virtuosity” by the Washington Post, the Talea Ensemble is sought after both in the U.S. and Europe for its range, precision, risk-taking, and superior performance quality. Recent festival engagements include performances at Lincoln Center Festival, Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, the Fromm Players at Harvard University, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Wien Modern, Chicago’s Contempo series, Royaumont Voix Nouvelles, Vancouver New Music, and many others. Why isn't my whole gift tax deductible?

We'd love to make it so! But the IRS says that any gifts or services a donor receives must be subtracted from the deductible amount. So, if you claim one of the awesome perks on the right-hand side that comes with a tangible gift, you can only claim a tax write-off for the amount of your generous donation that's above the fair market value of our thank you gift. You can elect not to receive any of the perks, if you choose. (But they're pretty cool!)

Who took those nice photos and videos up there?

I've got a question that's not answered here!

Please feel free to reach out to Talea's Development Director Zach Sheets by email at [email protected] or phone; (802) 299-1580.
