What began with the desire to accomplish something new and challenging, while also marking the occasion of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, quickly became a journey to raise money for some of the causes we care about.

Hey everyone! It’s hard to believe we’re only two days from the race! I just wanted to take a second to say thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way, from donating to charities we care about to watching our kids while we train, you guys have been amazing.
I did a quick tally and it looks like Holly and I swam 94,691 yards, biked 872.6 miles and I’ve run 253.9 miles preparing for this race. It’s been a challenging and rewarding journey to say the least, and your support helped carry us through the rough patches.
Speaking of support…so far we’ve raised $2849 for charity!! Thank you so much! The site will stay open until Saturday so please spread the word if you can think of someone else who might want to support a great cause.
We hope everyone is doing well and we’ll post again after we cross that finish line!!!

On April 26, 2021, Holly and I began a 20-week training program focused on preparing ourselves to complete a Half Ironman race to be held on 9/11/21 in Williamsburg, VA. We'll be swimming 1.2 miles and biking 58 miles. Then, Holly will wave goodbye as I head off for the 13.1 mile run. Are we crazy? Well, considering we registered for the race before we owned bikes or had a membership to the pool, it's very likely. But if you're going to do something crazy, why not raise some money for charity along the way?
We have a personal connection to each of the six charities we've selected, and we appreciate anything you could give to further these amazing organizations. If you choose to donate, please identify the charity or charities you'd like to donate to. If you'd rather not choose, Holly and I will simply distribute your donation evenly between the following six organizations:
1. Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. We remember Jack Brode, Holly's grandfather, who lost his battle with Alzheimer's but touched many lives during his time with us.
2. Andrew's Laughing Gas. The Mercier family is amazing and have dedicated themselves to honoring the memory of their son by bringing laughter to children fighting cancer. https://andrewslaughinggas.org
3. The Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world. https://fisherhouse.org
4. The FBI Agents Association Memorial College fund provides scholarships to children of FBI Agents killed in the line of duty. This year we were reminded of the need for such a fund as two of our own gave their last full measure of devotion while executing a search warrant against a child predator in Florida. https://www.fbiaa.org/memorial-college-fund
5. Holly's brother, Derek DeWitt, has been working tirelessly to help under served communities through his leadership of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties in Maryland. He recently launched an amazing campaign to bring BGC directly into neighborhoods through "club on the go." You have to check it out...http://bgcharfordcecil.org/clubonthego/
6. Our nephew, Donovan, was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a rare condition that affects so much of this young warrior's life. The Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2007 with the goal of raising awareness and finding a cure for Chiari malformation (CM), syringomyelia (SM) and related disorders. https://bobbyjonescsf.org/diseases/
