BOOKS BUILD EMPATHY. When children read about each other, they grow to know, understand, and respect one another.
"The true meeting takes place when the book opens, and a stranger reads about — and comprehends — a stranger.” –Amit Majmudar, Author
SCHOOLS NEED DIVERSE BOOKS. An incredible selection of diverse children’s books that represent ALL our children are being published. The nation’s schools, however, very often lack the funding to make their children’s book collection represent the varied cultures of their students or the varied cultures of this nation.
Let’s engage The Empathy Drive.
EMPATHY DRIVE FUNDS GO TO SCHOOLS. Your donations will go directly to schools in need. Schools will be able to select FREE diverse books from among First Book’s The Stories For All Project™ 1,300 book collection.
How many schools? How many books? That's up to you. Every $3 raised puts a new diverse children's book into a school somewhere in this nation.
WHY FIRST BOOK? First Book has provided more than 160 million free and low-cost new, high quality books and educational resources to a network of more than 300,000 educators, librarians, and program leaders serving kids in need nationwide.
First Book has a deep commitment to diverse books through The Stories For All Project™, an initiative that “promotes understanding and empathy through stories that can help children see and celebrate their similarities and differences.”
ONE BOOK AT A TIME. When you change a school book collection, you change a school culture, a community, and the world beyond. Let's save the universe - one book at a time.
EXPLORE MORE. The Empathy Drive is a resource website with an ongoing commitment to diverse children's books that build empathy. Fundraisers for First Book will be engaged periodically as the galaxy demands.
