My name is Kayla Kaplan, and I am a senior at the University of Houston. This program is my project for my social entrepreneurship class. We have one semester to make a difference in our community and I chose to set up a Sponsorship/Mentorship program for needy kids.
The goal we have set for this semester is to raise enough money to give a steer or heifer to a deserving young Montgomery County 4-H Club member.
The Grand Champion Opportunity Program is a program developed to raise money for 4-H members who wish to raise and show livestock through 4-H who’s families can’t afford to buy, raise, and/or shelter an animal. Along with monetary aid, The Grand Champion Opportunity Program is also a mentorship program to help students develop a mentor/student relationship with a professional. This mentor, while helping the student with their animal, will also help relate raising and showing livestock to fundamental skills needed in post-high school or college life.
