Here's a little bit more context:
The Root Slam is a FREE biweekly open mic & poetry slam in Oakland, CA located at MLK Cafe. The mission of the venue is to create an inclusive, socially just space to promote the artistic growth of the Bay Area poetry community. The Root Slam happens every 2nd & 4th Friday and offers a writing workshop every 1st & 3rd Saturday for new and experienced writers alike.
The Root Slam Team (above) consists of five individuals who competed multiple times in our venue in order to qualify for such an honor. The 2017 team is the very first Root Slam Poetry Team and will be making history as such this summer. Since The Root Slam is free and open to the community, we are seeking support to help us get to Denver in August.
