I got a wheelchair!? The NHS wheelchair service just delivered it!? People said I'd need to go through an assessment at a wheelchair centre and that it could take up to six months! They just turned up and said here you go~ I heard from ppl that they give you a cheap shoddy heavy wheelchair?? They gave me a £600 wheelchair that's only 13-14kg and has a 125kg user weight limit (I'm like 117kg). Thomas says it's a bit hard to lift but he thinks he'll get used to it
I'm raising money for a wheelchair. I can barely get outside due to chronic pain that worsens when I walk or stand, as well as chronic weakness, fatigue, balance issues and shakes/tremors. I'm still in the diagnosis process even though I've been mostly housebound for at least 9 months and it continues to get progressively worse. I can barely stand for a few minutes at a time before the pressure/pain is too much. Walking to the doctors a 3 minute walk away requires days of resting before, and days stuck in bed after. The isolation and frustration from being stuck inside all the time is really getting to me and I just want to see my friends again, go outside more often and get to the doctors easier.
The wheelchair I need is lightweight, foldable and easy to carry. There's hardly any space in the flat and my partner would need to carry it up/down two floors when going out. It's also strong enough to support my weight (120kg). Cheaper wheelchairs only support up to around 100kg. As a bonus the chair also corrects bad posture, possibly reducing pain in my back and pelvis.
