This case is a great example of what can be accomplished when we all work together. The psychological wounds these dogs have suffered are much harder to repair than the medical issues, so the road to recovery is a long one.
In total, we’ve been caring for 18 dogs – 14 in the original seizure plus 4 recovered shortly after. So far, four dogs have joined forever families, one is waiting for a forever family at our Delaware campus, two are in foster homes learning about family life, two are being rehabilitated at our facilities, and our fabulous rescue partners are helping nine with a combination of rehabilitation, adoption and long-term care.
This photo shows Pumpkin and Pie at our Pennsylvania campus. The pair enjoys the company of each other, and our behavior team is helping them become more trusting of people. We’re hopeful they’ll be ready for adoption in the next few months.
We’ll continue to keep you posted as they progress and find happy endings. Once all of the dogs have been placed, any remaining funds will be applied to help care for other victims of cruelty and neglect. Thank you adopters, fosters, rescues, and donors for giving these dogs hope!

On Friday, January 6, an award ceremony was held for the winners of the Nicholas Lee Guitar Fundraiser as well as the Delaware Division of Health and Social Services Office of Animal Welfare Officers. In attendance was one of the Millsboro dogs, Yams, with her new family.
"I heard the story and I just needed to do something," said Yams' new mom, "It's meant a lot to bring joy to her and she brings a lot of love and joy to us. To watch how much this dog has grown in three weeks is just incredible."
Honorees received special plaques for their support to the case and winners will await their custom guitars currently being constructed by Nicholas Lee Guitars.
In addition to the 14 winners, Chief Mark Tobin, Lt. Marybeth Hutchins, Lt. Jessica Vitela, and Officer Melissa Cloud were also honored for their hard work on this case and continuous dedication to protecting the animals of Delaware state.
At this time, some of the dogs have been adopted, while others have been placed in foster care, rescues, or sent to sanctuaries.

On Friday January 6, 2017 an award ceremony for the 14 lucky winners of the Nicholas Lee Guitar Fundraiser will be held at the Brandywine Valley SPCA New Castle Location (600 South Street, New Castle, DE), from 2pm to 4pm.
For those of you who didn't see the amazing work Nicholas has done for the dogs involved in this case, he and his team fundraised by creating a raffle to win one of 14 custom guitars. For just $10 people were entered into his raffle and donated towards our friends with fur. His work, your support and the commitment shown by OAW has truly made a huge impact for the dogs care & rehabilitation.
at the ceremony, all winners and officers involved in the cruelty case will receive plaques from the BVSPCA in honor of their dedication to helping our four legged companions. We hope that you will be able to join us in thanking them, we can't begin to express how much your support means to us and know that without you none of this would be possible.

The 14 dogs rescued over Thanksgiving were legally signed over to the Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) on December 9th.
With around-the-clock medical attention, the dogs are now eating and slowly working their way towards better physical health. Fearful and skittish around human beings, many of the dogs require significant psychological rehabilitation and training before they can be placed into the forever homes they deserve, but our team has been working with them to make them more at ease.
Three of the dogs will be available for adoption at our New Castle shelter on Wednesday, December 14th. As for the other dogs, the BVSPCA is seeking experienced fosters or rescues who are able to devote the time and energy to proper training and reconditioning. If you are interested in fostering or rescuing, please call the Brandywine Valley SPCA at 302-516-1008.
