Help us reach this month's goal!

Think we can get to $100 by month's end? I'm not saying you should steal a kid's lunch money for it but...

Nate's Story

In high school I had two different friends dealing with depression/self-injury/thoughts of suicide, I had no idea what to do so I just listened to them and tried to help them in whatever way I could. I even got one of them help from a counselor, although he/she hated me for it. Both of them seem to be doing pretty well now, even though we've drifted apart. Starting my junior year of high school I noticed myself experiencing sad/depressed feelings out of nowhere but they'd go away after a little while so I didn't pay any attention to them. The next chapter begins five years(and two or three concussions later). The fall of 2012 I was feeling worse and worse, and more frequent too. I thought about getting help but I ignored it. I still remember Christmas Eve of 2012, I cried myself to sleep because I was ashamed that I didn't get "good enough" gifts for my family and that I didn't deserve the love that they gave me. I felt like a burden because I didn't have good grades, I didn't know what major I wanted to pursue, I didn't take my faith seriously, and I kept my "moral looseness" to myself because I thought there was no way they would love me if they knew. The following weekend I had a Church conference, so I gave myself an ultimatum, if these feelings didn't go away then I was going to end it all because the weight of it was getting heavier and heavier every day. The second to lance night I thought I hit a breakthrough, I felt relieved. I came home with my new sense of hope but it quickly faded and I started slipping into the same mindset as before, that's when I left a letter for my parents explaining everything. Since then, I've been seeing a counselor, and a psychiatrist. The sense of joy and hope has returned to my life and I want to take my second chance and use it to help others who may not know that second chances are available. You can be helped, you are not alone. My friend Tom and I are asking for people to help support us raise funds for To Write Love on Her Arms, a charity that helps with depression, self-harm and suicide awareness. Even if you can't give anything, just helping share this event is help enough. We will be playing through all six Halo video games on December 26th-27th which is our version of a charity marathon. Like I said, even if you can't give money now, or at all, it's not until December.
