We have added more interpretative markers to the park and we're adding even more. Thank you for the donations everyone!!

More Info

The Battle of Monterey Pass was fought during the night of July 4-5, 1863 as the Confederate army was retreating from Gettysburg. The battle was the only battle to be fought on both sides of the Mason and Dixon Line. Other key areas of the battlefield park include the Hagerstown Road which was established in 1747 and led immigrants to Appalachia. The same road was used by Union and Confederate troops just after the close of Battle of Gettysburg. Help our organization preserve this piece of valuable historical land by donating to the Friends of the Monterey Pass Battlefield, Inc. and help us open this park to the public to be enjoyed by ALL people.

Update #2

Did you know that our Civil War battlefield park includes a piece of history dating back to the late 1740's? The Great Wagon Road from Philadelphia to Appalachia was first established in 1747, wide enough to allow pack horses through. Years of erosion allowed the path to be widened to allow larger wagons through. It became an official Pennsylvania Highway in 1787.
