Thank you for all of your donations! This money will be sent to Regis Tremblay to help him spread his film, "The Ghosts of Jeju."
Jeju, "The Island of Peace," is an island off the south western coast of Korea. Jeju is home to many animals that are not found on mainland Korea or anywhere else. It is also a UNESCO protected environment.
Because of the United States' "Pivot to Asia," the Korean government is building a naval base that will destroy the island and the type of life the islanders lead. The naval base will bring the construction of night clubs, bars, brothels, and thousands of American soldiers to the island. The people of Gangjeong (Gang-jung) are protesting to stop the naval base construction.
"The Ghosts of Jeju" by Regis Tremblay (video is the trailer to the film) is a brief history of the island and the struggle that the people of Gangjeong face every day. The film is eye-opening, shocking, and a must see. Please visit Regis's website http://www.theghostsofjeju.net/the-ghosts-of-jeju/ for more information.
I am just one person trying to make a difference by spreading the word about what is going on.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go either directly to the protesters of Gangjeong or Regis Tremblay who is traveling across the country screening "The Ghosts of Jeju" at different film festivals.

From Sung-Hee Choi on the No Naval Base on Jeju! Facebook Group [June 13]: Teenagers blocked the gate during the mass. On the day's daily mass, About 30 students from three different alternative schools blocked the gate where construction vehicles pass through.
I don't know all the things that happened during the mass since I arrived the gate at the end of it. However, when I arrived at the site, these courageous students were resisting to police measure of removing them off from the site, sitting on the road and clutching their arms together. Clear was the police look of embarrassment. Later I heard that the age of students from a school was 16 years old. The others, maybe similar to them or even younger.
According to a witness on the day, the police could barely let the trucks pass through the gate only one time during the mass, which was quite unusual. During the human chain time, we danced together while lots of trucks whose entering into the gate had been delayed could finally pass through it.
To be coincident, the day is remembered of the two girls- Shim Hyosoon and Kim Misun-who were killed by US armored vehicle near the Korean DMZ in 2002.
Overlapped are the faces of two girls over those of 30 students. The reason of this seems very clear: Why teenagers cannot but oppose to base?

It is at 5 am. It is literally and obviously illegal action by the state power. They even did not send any letter for notifying Gangjeong people in advance. They just came and attacked the people and the protest tent.
