Update #9

Apologies for duplicates for my dear loves who are on all my lists!

Our country is failing. As Election day turns into Election Eternity I wanted to drop some great news. The film is nearly complete. The story is “locked” so to speak and I will be doing a screening for the main subjects! I would like to offer ALL of the people who have contributed to this project a chance to see this cut before we shop it around, we have a bit of work to do and are hoping that when it gets purchased we will be assisted with the finishing funds.

I am in talks with a local Denver organization that assists filmmakers for projects in the end stages of development.

This work could not have been done without community and I want to give thanks and praises to the woman who brought my vision to life, our editor, Lilah Park.

Lilah has been working so hard to complete this project, what she did with my shaky handheld footage, the archival footage and the interviews to unfold this incredible story will leave you wanting more. And by more I mean more Candis and Shontels and Lisas and Shaylas and Veronicas. And maybe even more Rebekahs!

We ask you not share without our express permission as we used placeholder music and some pictures that we don't as of yet have rights.

If you were involved in a campaign recently win or lose, or you voted in the federal election you will love watching this film. It reminds us of the work we have to do and how radical love can impact elections. We need to get this film out.

The following is a general breakdown of what we need to complete the film with estimates based on quotes from local artists and editors. If it is possible to sell the film some of our contacts are willing to work on sweat equity, however we would prefer to pay them right now. It's a pandemic.

This is not an unusual thing in the documentary film industry. Everyone who has worked on Running With My Girls has done so out of love, love for me and love for the City of Denver; inclusive of our most vulnerable citizens.

Editor Fees: 22,500

Graphic Design:5,600

Score: 7000

Sound: 7000

Color Correction: 8000

Consulting Producer(s)5000

Liscence Fees Images and video 3000

After the screening we will be having a talkback with the participants.

If you are planning on watching the film I will ask that you RSVP so we can keep track of who has seen this version. This version does not include the epilogue which will be a visually dynamic representation of the work done by our "girls" right up until this election cycle here in Denver.

Update #8

We will have a locked cut by the end of THIS MONTH! Then we will be able to get the film scored, color corrected, graphics, and get a lawyer and insurance for the film then we will be ready ready for festivals/distribution in January 2021! We are hopeful that we will have something to celebrate in January! As well as get people HYPED for their local elections. Because whatever the outcome of the federal elections, we know that local and state elections have a bigger impact on our daily lives.

Also, I got a pandemic puppy. Willow Bark is her name, pooping and peeing in our house is her game.

Update #6

Just completed a video for a series on Truth & Conciliation! And I can't wait to share Dr. Stephany Rose Spaulding's Truth and Concilation Pledge!. What we saw today in Asheville North Carolina City Council was good. But it's not just sending check's, it's programs. So I'm thinking we could do something like this in Denver and other cities in Colorado where we model it!

Update #5

Dave Russell's photographs are incredible. I hope that my documentary turns out better than "Handmaid's Tale" but it's not looking good for us is it? I'm not trying to be a MLM but if you get a Friend to support the project at a producer credit level, you will get a one or year two year subscription to Culturs magazine. The last steps to completing a film are the most costly. So if you see the value in telling stories let me send you some stories 6 times a year! 3 digital(downloadable) and 3 print. And if your money is acting, funny good news! The online edition is available for free here https://issuu.com/culturs/docs/summer_2020_-_time_for_change You can't post links in these updates for some reason you can copy and paste the link! Please don't hesitate to reach out! And wear your masks! xoxoxoxox-Rebekah

Update #3

APOLOGIES IN ADVANCE FOR DUPLICATION MESSAGES- I need an assistant. Leah moved away and got a real job and then the pandemic so… I get confused lately.

When I began this journey creating Running With My Girls, I was so excited to be included and allowed access to so many incredible leaders. I became deeply involved in their stories and I became part of the story myself. All of you supported this dream in some way and I have always said this is the film community built. Every dollar you gave, every time you shared, everytime you told someone about the project YOU contributed. YOU made this happen. We are in the last stages of production and unfortunately we need to raise MORE money to finish. The original plan for this last push was a fundraising screening and in person panel event with the women from the film. Well Ms. Rona aka the Corona Virus AKA COVID-19 had other plans. Rona decided that we would stay inside, Rona decided that I was to become a stay at home mom and homeschool teacher for my four year old son. (For those you that know me well, you know, that is not the best job for me.) Rona decided that keeping my immune suppressed husband working from home in the basement indefinitely is the right thing to do to avoid contracting the virus.

I have been thinking about taking risks and what’s acceptable for us. For my husband, supporting me going all in on this film project, was a risk he was willing to take because this story is so important. For me, I was confident the project would be incredible and we would be able to sell it easily. Well Ms. Rona had other plans. In addition to that I have learned how the film industry exploits underrepresented filmmakers of color and in the spirit of keeping it 100% real, I was told “NO ONE” gets creative control of their work.

Well, this story and these women and the city of Denver are too important to me to give up on my vision so we decided to press on with our cut. And I have to say, it’s incredible. I want to share it with you all so badly but it’s also NOT DONE. I have been paying my editor in tampons and promises. I have been paying myself with nothing. Prior to the pandemic I was doing some freelance producing and writing, Ms .Rona also put a stop to that.

I have been depressed, my back was hurting so much for the first couple of months and I had to increase my antidepressant medication. I haven’t been doing my podcast. I had the unfortunate experience of teletherapy last month with a white woman therapist who told me she couldn’t work with me because “I don’t trust white people”, and that I could “vent to my girlfriends” about Amy Cooper and George Floyd. In short, I have been falling apart like many people. I know my experience is not unique but I am also the kind of person that gives TMI (too much information) on a regular basis. It's a blessing and a curse.

The three of us have been social distancing since March 8th and I am here to say the psychological impact is real, especially for two social butterflies like my son and me(my husband is an introvert. He likes being at home).

Last week we started seeing some friends from a physical distance with masks as well as partnering with one other family so that at last our son can have some playmates. Risk. But we are being very calculated. We have been extremely cautious and hope all of our dear loved ones will do the same. This pandemic is not over. Please remember Ms. Rona is a hard worker and she is trying to kill people efficiently and she does not take summer vacation.

Anyway, let me get to the heart of this update, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ME ANY MORE MONEY IF YOU HAVE ALREADY GIVEN MONEY UNLESS YOU JUST WANT TO, THAT IS TOTALLY FINE. Our last Kickstarter was not successful so I have started a Fundly campaign which allows you to keep all funds collected although they do take a percentage. I have set the goal of 30,000 which is not the full amount we need but I was trying to keep it reasonable.

If you want to know the FULL amount it’s about 87,000 which includes deferred payments, color correction, sound mixing and licensing some footage that does not fall under fair use, graphics, art, music, all of the things that we need to finish the project. For now my main concern is making sure
that everyone is compensated for their work on the project and we get it out before the November elections. It’s a lofty dream but I believe that America needs this film. I have not been wanting to crowdfund at this time because of the pandemic. But unfortunately under our current economic system mama needs some money to finish this project. We are NOT a non-profit, but I make no profit so we kind of are a non-profit, LOL!

Anyway if you’re still reading this I know you love me and believe in the work so I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And...please hang in there my family, the world needs radical revolutionary love right now. Also, here is a sneak peek of the rough intro(we have been working on that A LOT) and this is the direction we have decided to go, so if you want to watch send me a message and I will give you the password. https://vimeo.com/428658835 Thank you for your support as always!

Love,
Rebekah AKA The Tan Tigress

Update #2

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! 10% of the way to our goal! This film will help people understand the importance of being an active member in your community. And VOTING come November. The time to be involved is now. So feel free to spread the word. I am pleased to announce that we will have a 90 minute cut by June 15th! Early screenings are tricky because showing it before selling it can make us ineligible for a variety of funding routes so we'll keep you updated on the process for that! We did apply for IFP Week which does allow for private screenings related to funding but we will keep you up to date on that. We have a big goal, but the truth is we believe that once the film is completely finished we will be getting a distribution deal. When that happens we will be able to reimburse people for their time talents and treasure. Documentary film is incredible, we watched these historic events unfold. Covid-19 and the death of George Floyd have changed all of our lives. This film will be instrumental in getting people engaged locally. SO THANK YOU! I will post more soon!

Local elections matter! It's been inspiring to follow the work that these incredible women are continuing to do in their communities. They are creating policies and it's amazing to watch and learn how you can get involved.
