For the month of March, I've been revisiting one of my backlist novels, RECONSTRUCTING JADA CHANNING, as its her birthday month and Jada's story in particular has been on my mind for a while. And when I say "her" story, I also mean her foremothers' stories. The writing sample I used for the #VONA application was about her great-great grandmother and her great-grandmother and a tragic incident that sets the stage for a lot of what Jada must navigate and negotiate as she constructs a version of a life she wants to live. It's definitely not a romance, that sample I submitted, but it is still a love story., complex and poignant.
I haven't decided if I'm going to use their story in the Genre Fiction class workshop I've been accepted into because the story isn't genre fiction. But, their story, Jada's story, has been a foundation for nearly every other story I write. It even helped me graduate college, y'all! So whatever project that goes with me to Berkeley, Jada, her mother Lynn, her grandmother Candace; her great-grandmother Calliope, and her great-grandmother Dorcas will be coming with me too.
Couldn't imagine the journey without them.

I received my first donation and I'm a little misty about it. Thank you so much to Deanna! I'm so very grateful. So grateful. :)

I've just set up my crowdfunding page and I'm incredibly nervous about it! I suppose because this now makes everything real. I have confidence and I will not approach this from a place of lack. I am abundant with talent and encouragement, and I hope to be able to share both with more people! Thank you to all your support - whether monetarily, with haring, or a positive word! :)
